Extremely Rare 1947 Bond Bread Exhibits Jackie Robinson Rookie Card PSA 5 EX - "POP 1"; Highest Graded Example!

Having signed a contract with the Dodgers minor league affiliate the Montreal Royals on October 23, 1946, Jackie Robinson was soon to become the first African-American player to play Major League Baseball. Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey, against all recommendations and heavy criticism, signed the young ballplayer and six days before start of the 1947 season, called up Jackie Robinson to the big club to play first base for Brooklyn making Robinson the first African-American to play in the Major Leagues. Much to the chagrin of many players, managers and fans alike, Robinson manned first base and in his second game notched his first Major league hit. In his third game, he hit his first home run. Baseball changed forever and Robinson would forever be known as the man who broke the color barrier in MLB. At the start of that 1947 season, Bond Bread created a 48-card set featuring some of the great baseball players (44) of the year and four boxing legends.

That same year, to correspond with the sought-after standard release, they also produced a 44-subject Exhibit set of Major League ballplayers highlighted by Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and a bona fide rookie card for the newest Brooklyn Dodgers star, Jackie Robinson. Offered here is an extremely rare 1947 Bond Bread Jackie Robinson Rookie Exhibit graded 5 EX by PSA. This ultra-rare exhibit set has only 73 examples graded by PSA. Of those 73 exhibits, only five Jackie Robinson's have ever been encased and this PSA 5 EX is the highest graded according to the Pop Report. This super rare card borderless, sepia-toned exhibit displays a youthful Robinson in his Dodgers uniform with a facsimile signature across his left chest. The Exhibit presents as high quality with limited unobtrusive flaws on the front including faint print lines to the right of his face. However, the edges remain sharp with only the lightest touch of wear at the corners. The blank-backed reverse appears as if just pulled from a penny arcade dispenser in 1947. One of Jackie's undisputed 1947 rookie card issues, this extremely rare highest graded POP 1 PSA 5 EX, without question, elevates even the finest of Jackie Robinson collections!
