(LOT 239)
1933 Goudey #237 Gus Mancuso PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ – "POP 2" – Only Two PSA Examples Graded Higher!

LOW-POP MANCUSO!!! Journeyman catcher Gus Mancuso played 17 MLB seasons with seven different ball clubs, nine of which were spent in the Big Apple with the Giants. An outstanding defensive catcher, he was traded in the Fall of 1932 from the Cardinals to the Giants, and was one of the key cogs of the Giants 1933 world championship team. Ironically, this magnificent PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ 1933 Goudey #237 Gus Mancuso gum card likewise exhibits championship caliber, with its stratospheric assessment placing it as a "POP 2" marvel that has been bested by a mere two examples! The highlights of this time-defying masterpiece are the enthralling baby blue background and near-perfect centering between four blinding white borders. Mancuso's classic lithographic image portrays the fine catcher donning his period style flannels and catcher's mitt, with the illustration reflecting unimprovable clarity and contrast. Of course, the sharp perimeter, pack-fresh surfaces eluding any noticeable blemishes and pinpoint corners are the final compliments for one of the premier commons in the world-class Manny Gordon collection!
