(LOT 133)
1933 Goudey #127 Mel Ott "Portrait" PSA 9 MINT – Highest Graded PSA Example!

HIGHEST GRADED OTT!!! One of our National Pastime's greatest all-time sluggers is Melvin Ott, nicknamed "Master Melvin" by his peers. Ott was graced with two Goudey subjects issued by this landmark bubble gum company in 1933, and it is his #127 portrait version that is presented here in an absolutely unfathomable PSA 9 Mint holder. One of only six paltry examples at this sanctified tier, it shares the ultimate distinction of being the finest of its kind! Any PSA 9 Mint 1933 Goudey gum card is few and far between, with that notion substantiated by PSA's illustrious "Pop" Chart listing a microscopic 0.2% of the 94,000+ encapsulated examples at the hallowed "9 Mint" assessment. Enthusiasts scramble to capture Mel Ott's most valuable and coveted artifacts, and arguably speaking, none could possibly be more prestigious than a "9 Mint" memento of the Hall of Fame right-fielder. Regrading Ott's immortal legacy, until Hank Aaron and Willie Mays came along, Ott was considered the Babe Ruth of the National League, with his 511 lifetime round-trippers residing as the Senior Circuit's top figure until Mays became the first National Leaguer to eclipse his mark.

Over his distinguished 22-year career all with the New York Giants, he posted an impressive .304 lifetime batting average and led the N.L. in home runs six times. Ott will always be best remembered for his high right leg kick utilized as a timing mechanism for his unorthodox swing, leading to his uncanny power and unequivocal legacy. Therefore, it is with great pride that Memory Lane now offers one of Ott's finest cards extant, with his extraordinary portrait image literally brought to life by its beautiful sage green setting. Even more significant is the virtually dead-on 50/50 centering that is a near-impossible attribute for any Goudey subject. Snow white borders, blistering sharp corner tips, impeccable surfaces and the verso's bold green text all combine to support the notion of this card possibly meriting the perfect "10" assessment. Yet, as most elite hobbyists would attest, owning a Mel Ott PSA 9 Goudey subject that stands as the "best of the rest" is more than sufficient for the finest collection in the universe!
