(LOT 129)
Astonishing 1933 Goudey #123 Jack Russell PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ - "POP 1"

POP 1!!! Presented here is a resounding example of Washington Senators right-handed twirler Jack Russell, a PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ "POP 1" marvel that has only been bested by a meager four specimens on the prestigious PSA population report. Russell pitched 15 years in the big leagues from 1926 – 1940 for six different teams (Red Sox, Indians, Senators, Tigers, Cubs & Cardinals), with his finest season being the year this exalted card was issued nationwide. His 12 wins ably assisted Washington in capturing the American League pennant, and he pitched extremely well in three relief stints in the Fall Classic, yielding only a single run in ten innings of work. This PSA 8.5 offering reveals a stoic portrait image of the strapping right-hander that literally jumps off the card via the flawless radiant yellow background. The illustration exhibits near-perfect positioning that reflects only the slightest hint of favoritism towards the lower edge, flanked by four blinding white borders. The factory-cut perimeter is completely intact, with the edging somehow eluding any damage from its original pristine state. While Russell may have ended his MLB career with a losing record, this esteemed offering is truly a bona fide "winner", and destined to find a final resting place in one of the most esteemed 1933 Goudey collections!
