(LOT 1703)
Extremely Scarce 1929 Bill Wambsganss Kansas City Blues Celluloid Pass

Cleveland Indians second sacker Bill Wambsganss achieved eternal stature when in Game # 5 of the 1920 World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers, he completed the only unassisted triple play in World Series history. During the fifth inning with Brooklyn runners on first and second, Clarence Mitchell lined out to Wambsganss who quickly stepped on second and then tagged Otto Miller who was the runner on first. A fine fielding infielder and formidable hitter, Wambsganss would play 13 MLB seasons with the Indians, Red Sox and Athletics, and while he may never be enshrined in Cooperstown, his aforementioned triple play will forever reside in baseball history. Presented here from the estate of Wambsganss is his celluloid pass that allowed him and a single guest into every Kansas City Blues (American Association) game at the famed Muehlebach Field. The exquisite vintage script is eye-popping with "Wamby" enjoying unequivocal immortality for the previously mentioned unassisted triple play; leading the Indians to their first of only two championships, and his star appearance in the classic "The Glory of Their Times." After his final year in the majors in 1926, Wamby played for Kansas City and later managed them, and despite his superb career, there is virtually no vintage Wambsganss memorabilia to choose from.
