(LOT 1690)
Circa Early 1920s Ty Cobb Original Photo "ADVERTISING THE NEW EVINRUDE CHAMPION MOTOR"

Turn back the clock to the early 1920s and you've got yourself an incredible story. A rare occurrence where Detroit Baseball Hall Of Famer Ty Cobb obliges to posing with the new Evinrude "CHAMPION" 2 Cylinder, 1.5 Horsepower Motor one afternoon while right in the middle of hunting. This original photo of Cobb posing with the motor and his shotgun was consigned to us by the granddaughter of Carl Edelblut, the man in the newspaper photo who had taken over the Evinrude Outboard Motor Company Franchise 1920. Edelblut never thought he'd be rubbing elbows with Cobb but the day did come. Edelblut had sent Cobb a brand-new CHAMPION motor but Cobb never took it out of the crate because he intended to give it to a friend. Per Cobb's request, and luck have it, Edelblut had brought another motor with him for the photo shoot. Cobb graciously posed with that motor for Edelblut's company and the rest was history. Included with this original Cobb photo, which has been affixed to a piece of cardboard, is the newspaper clipping from the Augusta Chronicle covering this story some 50 years later on July 16th, 1972.
