 (LOT 1389)
1966 Topps PSA-Graded Near-Set (588 Different) – PSA Near-Mint 7 or Better (7.81 GPA)

The mid-1960s were both controversial and consequential as the United States dealt with a growing problem in Vietnam, racial unrest in the south and the race to the moon versus the Soviet Union. In 1966, while the US became more involved in the war, sending more than 500,000 troops, and unrest over the conflict became ever more polarizing, many events and firsts helped ground this nation in turmoil. A handful of significant firsts occurred with Pampers introducing the first disposable diaper, while designers in England introduced the miniskirt. (We can assume that the latter likely led to an inordinate number of purchases of the former.) Electric Hockey and NFL Electric Football, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots and Twister were the must have gifts for Christmas and "Batman" and "Star Trek" debuted. And in 1966, the sports world did not disappoint either. In April, Jack Nicklaus won his third Green Jacket and later became the fourth golfer in history to complete the career grand slam after winning the British Open; Ted Williams was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame; England won the World Cup; Green Bay and Kansas City advanced to the first ever Super Bowl I; Muhammad Ali went 5-0, but garnered more headlines for refusing to serve in Vietnam; the Milwaukee Braves moved to Atlanta and the Baltimore Orioles won the World Series.
