(LOT 1768)
1978 Pete Maravich PSA Type 1 Encapsulated N.O.T.P. Photo Measures Approx. 8" x 10"

This 1978 PSA Type 1 Pete Maravich offering portrays the dazzling superstar trying to score another one of his infamous baskets against the Celtic's Kevin Stocom. A Number 3 first round pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1970 amateur draft, his unparalleled and creative offensive skill-sets led iconic Hall of Famer John Havlicek to once quote: "Pete Maravich is the best ball-handler of all-time". Maravich ultimately ended his 11-year Hall of Fame career with nearly 16,000 points and an outstanding 24.2 points per game average.

Tragically, his life was cut short when he passed away at the tender young age of 40 during a 1988 basketball pick-up game due to a previously unknown heart defect. Measuring approximately 8" x 10", this sparkling image emanates stellar contrast and clarity as the New Orleans Jazz superstar displays his unparalleled ball-handling skills en route to the hoop donning his #7 home whites. Only a few negligible notations are visible along the lower right edge, and the verso includes the critical NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE credit stamp (photo by Donald V. Stout), the final superlative for this magnificent "Pistol Pete" illustration!
