(LOT 1762)
c.1960s "Murderer's Row" with Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri & Combs - PSA Type 2 Encapsulated International News Photo Measures Approx. 6" x 8"

Arguably the most formidable grouping of hitters in any MLB lineup was the potent New York Yankees "Murderer's Row" that included the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, and Combs. These slugging legends led the Yanks to two consecutive World Championships in 1927 and 1928, with the "'Sultan of Swat" setting the stage with his record-breaking 60-homer season in 1927. The Yanks would win eight consecutive World Series games over those two seasons, sweeping both the Pirates and Cardinals in one of the finest displays of superiority ever witnessed on a ballfield. Presented here is a magnificent 6" x 8" PSA Type 2 photo depicting the four aforementioned "Murderer's Row" legends including from left to right: Lou Gehrig, Earl Combs, Tony Lazzeri and Babe Ruth! Originally taken in front of the Yankee Stadium dugout before the 1931 opening day game against the Boston Red Sox, this particular offering is a c.1960's "Type 2" restrike, meaning it was struck off of the original negative AFTER the original 2/3-year period.

Regardless, its original negative is unquestionably from 1931, and the breathtaking image portrays the finest imaginable clarity and contrast, with all four players donning their classic Yankee home pinstripes. No notifiable surface flaws are apparent, and evidence of modest edge trimming is evident. The verso reveals the critical INTERNATIONAL NEWS PHOTOS credit stamp, as well as a pencil notation listing all four Cooperstown Inductees in their respective "left to right" order. A stellar Ruthian artifact, it conjures up vivid memories of an era when the Yankees dominated our National Pastime at an unparalleled level via the exploits of the incomparable "Murderer's Row" sluggers!
