(LOT 1742)
1936 AL All-Stars The Beast, Iron Horse, Mechanical Man Honor NL Shortstop Arky Vaughan with Sportswriter Fred Lieb 6-3/4" x 8-1/4" PSA Type 1 Encapsulated The Sporting News PSA LOA

"Back in the day " All-Stars received watches for superior play in the Mid-Summer Classic. Now they get a truck! The offered photo shows a jocular Jimmie Foxx yucking it up with fellow American Leaguers Lou Gehrig and Charlie Gehringer as Sporting News writer Fred Lieb presents Arky Vaughan with a watch. This telling photo shows the four players enjoying a little break from the rigors of the regular season while honoring one of their own, even though he is an enemy on this day.

Taken at Boston Braves Field on July 7, 1936, this 8-5/8" x 6-3/14" photograph remains in excellent condition with minimally rounded corners and few unobtrusive surface abrasions. The reverse shows the hand-written names of "Jimmy Foxx, Lou Gehrig, Arky Vaughan, Charlie Gehringer, Mr. Lieb" as well as "PROPERTY of The Sporting News" and photographer Paul Maguire Boston Globe penning. Other photographer notes are also present on the slightly toned back. Five of the game's greats in one 1936 All-Star Game photo! PSA LOA.
