(LOT 1718)
1927 Lou Gehrig Holding 1-Year-Old Christy Walsh, Jr. PSA 7" x 9-3/4" Type 1 Christy Walsh Syndicate Encapsulated Photograph

It wasn't too often that fans were able to see the softer sides of players back in the early days of baseball and certainly not of the 1927 New York Yankees team, considered the greatest baseball team in history. But, super sports agent Christy Walsh, agent for Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, enjoyed a friendly relationship with the two icons and spent countless hours with them including off days and vacations. Offered is a 7" x 9-3/4" photograph from the Christy Walsh Syndicate featuring Lou Gehrig holding a slightly older than 1-year-old Christy Walsh, Jr. at his getaway spot, Lake Oscawanna in upstate New York.

Gehrig smiles wide as the young toddler gazes up at the muscle-bound Lou, unaware of the fame his carrier possessed. The image still features borders at top and bottom, but the side borders have be removed and show some paper loss to the right, a trimmed left edge and missing bottom corner. The reverse has black photo album paper residue with a pencil notation "Gehrig with Christy Walsh Jr. 8/2/27 Oscawanna". Perhaps this getaway and day off for the Iron Horse was responsible for his onslaught on August 3rd when he went 3-for-8 with two home runs in a double header against the Detroit Tigers. No doubt days like this helped him garner his first in a pair of MVP awards (1927, 1936).
