(LOT 192)
1909-10 Briggs Co. Lozenge E97 Cy Young Boston SGC 3 VG

CYCLONE!!! No one could touch Cleveland Spiders and Boston Americans (primarily) pitcher Cy Young during his tenure in the big leagues. From 1891 to 1904, Young averaged 28 wins and 40 complete games per season, leading the league five times in wins, and he remains the undeniable king of the mound with 511 victories. His 511-victory mark is 94 more than Senators great Walter Johnson's paltry 417 wins. In 1903, he led his Americans club to victory in the inaugural World Series going 2-1 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Offered is a 1909-10 Briggs Co. Lozenge E97 Cy Young Boston (color) card graded 3 VG by SGC. An extraordinarily scarce find in high-grade as only two examples grade higher by SGC. Features superior centering on the front with expected edge and corner wear, light soiling and bottom right corner crease. The reverse shows creamy color with light aging and expected corner and edge wear. This Denton True rare for the hobby and still rarer for the grade.
