1959 Home Run Derby Mickey Mantle PSA 6 EX-MT
MANTLE!!! In an effort to publicize the ultra-popular 1959 Home Run Derby contest, American Motors issued a 20-card set with each subject measuring approximately 3-1/4" x 5-1/4". The Derby television series was broadcasted on a weekly basis, with baseball's finest long ball sluggers competing against each other. Extremely eclectic, these black & white blank backed cards seldom surface for the taking, and as is the case with virtually every 1950's issue, the most coveted and valuable card belongs to the immortal Mickey Mantle. Presented here is a PSA 6 Home Run Derby gem of the "Commerce Comet" that synonymous with Mantle's cardboard stature, resides as one of the finer specimens extant.
To date, PSA has only encapsulated 4 other copies that graded higher! Even more impressive is the relatively well-centered and unique Mantle batting pose accompanied by his "good natured" grin. Virtually all of its remaining technical attributes support its "rare for the grade" status including crystal clear clarity, right-angled corners and no glaring surface flaws. Hobbyists are well aware of the stratospheric pricing points now associated with "The Mick's" most obscure high-grade cards. With that in mind, this particularly nebulous Mantle "type" card and coupled "EX-MT 6" assessment place it has a "must have" for the most sophisticated enthusiasts!
