(LOT 71)
1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel Honus Wagner (PSA VG/EX 4)

One of the leading subjects of the prestigious 1909 Philadelphia Caramel Co. 25-card set is the immortal Honus Wagner, presented here in a splendid PSA VG/EX 4 holder. Justifying the extreme condition sensitivity of the E95 issue is the PSA "Pop" chart indicating that less than 19% of the 160 encapsulated Wagner's have achieved a "VG/EX" or higher assessment! The Flying Dutchman continues to be baseball's choice as the greatest shortstop to ever live. His hitting, fielding and base running skills were second to none during the N.L.'s "dead ball" era, with Honus standing right alongside Ty Cobb as our National Pastime's premier pre-WW1 player. However, even Cobb doesn't own the distinction of being represented on the most prestigious baseball card in existence, the famous T206 Wagner "Holy Grail" that would make any enthusiast "skip a beat". That card's popularity has spilled over to other vintage Wagner subjects, with his E95 a bona-fide collecting favorite.

The Wagner batting stance image is unique to his E95 issue, reflecting outstanding eye appeal via its fine centering (only revealing a hint of favoritism towards the lower edge), vivid resolution, and sparkling yellow/gray hues. No obtrusive creases are apparent on either side, and the primary reason for its assessment certainly appears to be modest corner wear and an area of toning/spoiling near the lower left corner. This certainly resides as a grand opportunity to capture a highly coveted Wagner "E" card that won't break the bank for six-figures or more, with this condition sensitive E95 Hans marvel worthy of an esteemed place in any elite vintage gathering!
