(LOT 263)
c.1920s Rogers Hornsby PSA Type 1 George Grantham Bain Encapsulated Photo - Measures Approx. 3-1/2" x 5"

This spectacular George Grantham Bain Type 1 c.1920's photo portrays the great Rogers Hornsby who arguably stands as our National Pastime's greatest all-time right-handed hitter (w/all due respect to Aaron & Foxx). The 1920's would see the Cardinals capture the 1926 World Championship, besting the mighty New York Yankees in a tightly contested 7-game series. During the decade, the great Rogers Hornsby was widely considered baseball's foremost hitter via his unfathomable five-year run from 1921 thru 1925 that produced three .400+ batting seasons and a record-setting .401 batting average!

This PSA Encapsulated Type 1 photo measures approximately 3-1/2" x 5" and depicts "The Rajah" with his "hand on hips" and reflecting a stoic facial expression. The well centered image reveals fine resolution and a somewhat darker contrast, with no glaring blemishes impacting the superb aesthetics. The final superlative is the verso's critical BAIN NEWS SERVICE credit stamp as well as an additional CULVER PICTURES, INC. stamp typically seen on many Bain original photos. A super eclectic Hornsby offering, it was taken during a period when he ruled baseball with his mighty bat via an unprecedented number of campaigns when he eclipsed the .400 batting mark!
