(LOT 163)
1922 World Series Unscored Program – Giants vs. Yankees at The Polo Grounds w/Babe Ruth

The 1922 World Series would be a rematch of the 1921 Fall Classic, with John McGraw's N.Y. Giants once again facing their cross-town rival N.Y. Yankees who were led by manager Miller Higgins and the swashbuckling Babe Ruth. Once again, the Giants would take down the mighty Yankees, this time by winning four of the five games with game#2 ending in a 3-3 tie due to darkness. McGraw's plan of feeding the "Sultan of Swat" and abundance of off-speed pitches as well as pitching around him worked like a charm, with the mighty "Babe" comping a dismal .118 series average via two measly singles. This 1922 World Series program turns back the clock to that legendary Fall Classic played only at the Polo Grounds (the Yankees home field was the Polo Grounds due to Yankee Stadium still being under construction), with portrait images for both McGraw and Huggins portrayed on the front cover.

The spine is extremely fragile with both covers detached at the lower staple and only clinging to the remaining program via a precarious upper staple. The inside includes all of the original pages including the unscored Yankees and Giants lineups as well as team pages. Most significantly, the Yankees page includes a classic portrait Babe Ruth image in the lower row (far left) that is easily recognizable as a Charles Conlon illustration. Stray wrinkles and soft corners throughout the periodical do not diminish its fine aesthetics that have remained presentable for the past 98 years!
