(LOT 161)
1915 Boston Red Sox World Series Program – Fully Scored Game#4 October 12, 1915 Boston/Braves Field Program

It is no secret that the value of Ruth related artifacts from his early playing days with the Boston Red Sox knows no boundaries. Indeed, a tidal wave of euphoria is currently streaking across the hobby regarding baseball's greatest and most popular icon who ever graced the diamond, and don't expect this hype to diminish in the near future. With that in mind, presented here is a 1915 Boston Red Sox World Series Game#4 October 12th program that resides as one of the "Bambino's" most sought after heirlooms from his 1915 rookie season. Fully scored in period pencil, pitchers Ernie Shore and George Chalmers names are penciled in on their respective team's lineup pages, with Shore outdueling Chalmers by a nail-biting 2-1 score to put Boston up three games to one in the Fall Classic.

The next day, the Red Sox would claim their 3rd World Series Championship, besting the Phillies in five games. Ironically, although Babe Ruth would win 18 games and post a stellar 2.44 E.R.A. during his first full season in 1915, he did not throw a single pitch in the World Series, with the dominating pitching trio of Rube Foster, Dutch Leonard and Ernie Shore more than enough to tame the Phillies. Ruth's sole appearance came in a pinch-hitting role in the series clinching game five, when he grounded out against the legendary Grover Alexander. The 7" x 10-1/4" scorecard itself depicts superb aesthetics with the front cover reflecting only a negligible horizontal crease situated near the lower left spine as well as even corner wear and some standard toning.

The critical spine is completely intact and all of the interior pages are included, exhibiting fine eye appeal by stubbornly defying 106 years of potential wear. Of utmost significance, the rear cover reveals a blue-toned Red Sox team photo including Babe Ruth himself, standing 5th from the left in the back row. To reiterate, any keepsake from Ruth's "rookie-era" playing days carries an incredible aura cherished by the hobby's most esteemed collectors. We can only imagine a handful of those obscurities possibly matching the prestige and majestic stature of a program representing his inaugural 1915 Fall Classic, with this museum worthy periodical residing as one of the "Sultan of Swat's" most coveted mementos!
