1950 All Star Baseball Hard Cover "Pin-Up" Book Featuring Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, Jackie Robinson & Stan Musial
In 1950, the Garden City Publishing Company issued an ultra-popular "ALL-STAR BASEBALL PIN-UP BOOK" that included 10 baseball player die-cut circular "punch-out" measuring slightly less than 7" in diameter. Ted Williams' iconic poses are included on both the front and back covers, with each player's punch-outs portraying imposing black & white portrait images framed by ornate dark green borders and white printed baseballs.
The exclusive list of Hall of Famers and stars include: Ralph Kiner (HOF), Ted Williams (HOF), Stan Musial (HOF), Joe DiMaggio (HOF), Jackie Robinson (HOF), Phil Rizzuto (HOF), George Kell (HOF), Gil Hodges, Jim Hegan, and Mel Parnell. The seven Hall of Famers and three all stars were intended to be "punched-out" off their respective pages via the perforations encircling their respective framed images. Fortunately, this eclectic offering depicts all 10 players with no perforations, with virtually all of the pinups portraying conservative "EX+" aesthetics.
While the cover shows some expected wear along the edging as well as some moderate surface wear, the inner pages are primarily intact. Of utmost significance is the obscurity of the more significant subjects such as Ted Williams (arguably baseball's greatest hitter ever); Joe DiMaggio (The iconic "Yankee Clipper"); Stan "The Man" Musial (the immortal St. Louis Cardinals' slugger), and the incomparable Jackie Robinson who broke baseball's modern day color barrier in 1947. Seldom surfacing in any condition, this treasure chest book provides classic pin-up images for some of our National Pastime's grandest Golden Age heroes!
