(LOT 25)
1903 E107 Breisch Duke Farrell "Type 1" (PSA VG 3/MK) – The SOLE PSA Graded Example and the Highest Graded Example, Qualifiers Notwithstanding, on the COMBINED SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

Of the 14 Boston American subjects presented in this auction, the only player wearing formal attire is Duke Farrell, offered here in a superior PSA VG 3/MK holder as the SOLE and FINEST GRADED example in the hobby. Farrell played 17 seasons with 8 different teams, commencing his career in 1888 with the Chicago White Stockings. His 1903 Breisch Williams card offered here is a perfect testament to his legacy, starting with the brilliant aesthetics of the classic Carl Horner portrait pose.

Farrell's period-style thick mustache and formal attire literally transcend time, with the breathtaking eye appeal of this hallowed image further enhanced by the magnificent centering. No obverse side obtrusive flaws are evident, with the "MK" qualifier due to a light "2" blue pen notation situated on the verso's upper left corner. An additional reverse side flaw includes a surface abrasion running through the "and fifty" text that is part of the "One of a hundred and fifty prominent Baseball players" verbiage. Yet, most enthusiasts would agree that the card's exalted E107 pedigree, highest graded stature and brilliant obverse side aesthetics are far more prevalent than the verso's aforementioned negligible blemishes.
