(LOT 24)
1903 E107 Breisch Williams Patsy Dougherty "Type 1" (PSA EX 5/MK) – "1 of 1" & The Highest Graded Example on the COMBINED SGC & PSA "Pop" Charts!

This spectacular PSA EX 5/MK Breisch Williams E107 Patsy Dougherty "Type 1" offering currently resides as the SOLE and HIGHEST GRADED example on the combined PSA and SGC "Pop" Charts! As an interesting note, the image on this offering actually belongs to Tom Hughes (with Patsy Dougherty's true image inadvertently affixed to the George Winters E107 subject also presented in this auction). Formidable outfielder Patsy Dougherty began his MLB career with the Boston Americans in 1902, batting a sensational .342 his rookie season, while following that up with a likewise stellar .331 campaign that ably assisted the Boston club in capturing the inaugural 1903 World Series.

His sensational representation on this scarce E107 gem is highlighted by the crystal-clear clarity of the sanctified Carl Horner pose that is actually Tom Hughes. The lower text boldly portrays DOUGHERTY's name, clearly defining this Tom Hughes image as an irrefutable E107 Dougherty subject. Additional technical attributes supporting the technical assessment is a well-centered image, no glaring creases and/or surface blemishes on the obverse side, excellent mid-grade corners, and the verso's bold "One of a hundred and fifty prominent Baseball players" text. Accounting for the "MK" qualifier is an extremely faint blue notation that appears to have been somewhat erased. In closing, this E107's pinnacle "1 of 1" grade as well as only six other Dougherty examples being listed on ALL grading services "Pop" Charts more than justify this exalted offering's world-class stature!
