(LOT 35)
1912 T227 Rube Marquard Honest Long Cut (SGC 60 EX 5) - "1 of 2 SGC Honest Long Cuts"; Only 1 SGC Honest Long Cut Graded Higher!

This SGC "EX 5" T227 Rube Waddell sporting an Honest Long Cut verso is joined by only a single other SGC specimen at this mid-grade plateau. Even more impressive is the fact that only a sole SGC example has managed to exceed the lofty grade. It's quite complex to use the term "lofty grade" with a mid-grade card, but as vintage collectors truly realize is that finding an "EX 5" T227 subject is synonymous to finding a "needle in a haystack!"

The New York Giant's southpaw Rube Marquard who achieved his Hall of Fame credentials via his 200+ victories. More impressively, from 1911 1913 he won 73 games, assisting the great Christy Mathewson in leading the Giants to 3 consecutive National League pennants. Tantamount with his championship-like prowess is this remarkable SGC 5 T227 offering that exhibits a spectacular Waddell pitching pose complimented by its sparkling hues, bright baby blue background and fine centering. No glaring surface blemishes on either side complete this "timeless" gem that is nearly impossible to find in mid-grade fashion!
