(LOT 583)

Brilliant 1963 Fleer Baseball Empty Wax Box

Who could ever forget the excitement of running to the local candy store to buy baseball card wax packs, and vividly shuffle through the open packs in search of your childhood heroes.  One of the hobby’s steadily growing collecting angles is the seemingly infinite search for those empty vintage wax pack boxes that were typically discarded by retailers once the boxes were empty.  One of the more eclectic boxes is the ultra-scarce 1963 Fleer carton from the by-gone 66-subject Fleer Baseball card set that included 11 Cooperstown inductees, with the headliner players being Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and Sandy Koufax.  The empty box presented here just happens to be in VG/EX - EX condition with the sparkling powder blue, bold red and radiant yellow hues stealing the show.  No obtrusive flaws are evident, with only some standard surface wear and/or negligible creasing apparent near each of the box’s corners.   A seldom-surfacing artifact, it allows the collector to effectively “turn back the clock” to their childhood days, and once again rekindle the sheer joy of pulling wax packs from a candy store’s counter display box!
