1955 Jackie Robinson PSA Type I Original United Press Photo "OUT AT THE PLATE" – Measures Approx. 7" x 9" –PSA Type 1 Encapsulated
The iconic Jackie Robinson will forever be considered one of our National Pastime's true heroes for it was this courageous ballplayer that "broke the color barrier' in his inaugural 1947 season. For this reason alone, collectibles of this Brooklyn Dodger legend are highly coveted, such as this superbly preserved 1955 United Press photo portraying the fleet footed Jackie being tagged out at the plate. While the result wasn't in Jackie's favor this particular afternoon, the 1955 season surely ended favorably for Robinson and the Dodgers who captured their inaugural World Championship, besting their cross-town Yankee rivals in a tightly contested Fall Classic.
Measuring approximately 7" x 9", the sepia-toned image reflects minimal ill affects for a 63-year old artifact, with its fine centering, superb contrast and relatively white borders stealing the show. A marvelous keepsake from Jackie Robinson's 1955 championship season, it rekindles fond memories of how his embodiment of courage turned the baseball world upside down, forever changing baseball and America as well! - PSA Type I Encapsulated
