(LOT 138)
1927 "Yankees Infield" Type I Photo: Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Mark Koenig & Joe Dugan - Measures Approx. 9" x 7-1/2" – PSA Type I LOA

Only a handful of photos could possibly better define the New York Yankee's 1927 dominance than this Type I original offering of that immortal team's legendary infield. Included from "left to right" is the iconic 1st baseman Lou Gehrig, Hall of Fame 2nd baseman Tony Lazzeri, shortstop Mark Koenig, and 3rd sacker Joe Dugan. Along with Babe Ruth, Bob Meusel and Earl Coombs, this dynamic infield dominated pitchers at an unparalleled level, paving the way for 2 consecutive World Championships in 1927 and 1928. Measuring approximately 9" x 7-1/2, the image was taken directly after the Yankees clinched the 1927 American League pennant, with the verso's caption providing details of how "Murderer's Row" claimed first place from opening day straight thru the season.

Dated September 14, 1927, the Yankees would eventually sweep the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1927 Fall Classic, placing an indelible claim as the arguable greatest team in baseball history. The virtually immaculate black & white image reveals outstanding clarity and contrast, with each player holding their period lumber over their right shoulders. The perimeter is razor sharp including four right-angled corners, no glaring flaws are evident, and the verso exhibits the critical caption providing a detailed account of the Yankees clinching the A.L. Pennant. One of the greatest infield in baseball history, their slugging and defensive exploits were one of the major reasons the 1927 Yankees possibly reside as baseball's finest team ever, with this classic image serving as a steadfast testament to their unbridled legacy! - Full PSA Type I LOA
