(LOT 124)
Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Type 1 Original 1927 Underwood & Underwood World Series Photo -"Ruth Hits a HR in Game #4 Clincher at Yankee Stadium"! – Measures Approx. 8" x 10" - PSA Encapsulated Type I

The fabled 1927 Yankee season will forever be associated with arguably "the greatest team in baseball history", Babe Ruth's 60 home runs, and "Murderer's Row" (Ruth, Gehrig, Lazerri, Meusel and Combs). The Yankees would win a staggering 110 games against only 44 loses, eventually claiming their second world championship by sweeping the Pirates in an uncontested four games. Presented here just happens to be an extraordinary Babe Ruth "crossing home plate" Type I photo in Game 4 at Yankee Stadium from that legendary Fall Classic; after the "Sultan of Swat" had just swatted a 2-run homer in the 5th inning to score Earle Coombs. On October 8, 1927 before 60,000+ faithful fans, the Yankees were in a 1-1 deadlock with the Pirates as they batted in the bottom of the 5th against Pirates hurler Johnny Miljus.

With Coombs on first base, Ruth crushed a Miljus pitch deep into the seats for his second homer of the Series to give the Yanks a 3-1 lead. Pittsburgh would eventually tie the game, with the Yankees scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 victory and a 4-game sweep for their second World Championship! Dubbed an original photo by PSA via its Type I encapsulation, this captivating image captures Ruth crossing home plate after Coombs. Even more incredible is Lou Gehrig captured in an inspiring candid moment giving the "Babe" a light playful tap on his butt as he crosses the plate!

Measuring approximately 8" x 10", the classic Underwood & Underwood image reveals incredible contrast & resolution, with only some stray/negligible creases barely visible to the naked eye. The crystal-clear image reveals no obtrusive flaws with only a modest trace of emulation near the lower edge, caused by the reverse side caption. The verso reveals the critical caption dating the photo to Game#4/October 8, 1927 as well as providing a detailed account of Ruth's monumental round tripper. A truly spectacular "Sultan of Swat" and "Iron Horse" offering, it links the collector back to a definitive moment of that legendary 1927 World Series when Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and their remaining Yankee teammates turned the baseball world "upside-down" via their "Goliath-like" 1927 performance! – PSA Type 1 Encapsulation
