1910 E98 "Black Swamp" Cy Young – Green Background (PSA NM/MT 8)
How many times have we heard the old motto "in life there are two certainties... death and taxes". From a baseball perspective, there is one particular certainty that no historian is willing to dispute; that Cy Young's 511 lifetime victories will NEVER even be remotely challenged again. Placing second to this unfathomable accomplishment are Walter Johnson's 417 wins, still a distant 94 victories short of this incomprehensible feat, and considering our National Pastime is now dominated by a myriad of late inning pitching specialists, don't hold your breath in anticipation of a new career victory leader.

No wonder they named the annual pitching excellence award with his immortal name, and for these reasons alone, elite hobbyists scour the market to seize Young's rarest cardboard artifacts. One of those remarkable Cy Young issues is this PSA 8 Black Swamp E98 marvel that is joined by only 2 other examples at this level with a meager 2 specimens graded higher! Although the E98 Anonymous company inadvertently issued southpaw Irv Young's image on Cy's E98 issue, collectors still highly covet this Cy Young subject.

An impeccable image, superb powder green background, snow white borders, pristine-like surfaces and pinpoint corners all combine to justify the elevated assessment. The only visual blemish is the somewhat off-centered illustration towards the left edge for an otherwise aesthetically brilliant keepsake. A seldom-surfacing Young issue at this stratospheric plateau, only two examples have managed to surpass this exalted Black Swamp memento!
