Lyn Lary Single-Signed Spalding Baseball from the Helbing Collection – Full PSA & JSA LOAs
Another signed baseball from the Helbing collection is presented here, a Spalding ball scripted by both "Lyn Lary" (side panel) and his wife Mary Lawlor Lary (sweet spot). Rarely is a baseball seen signed solely by Lary (and his wife), with virtually all of his horsehide sphere autographs evident on team signed baseballs. Nicknamed "Broadway", the standout shortstop played with seven different teams over 12 successful Major League seasons, including stints with Yankees, Red Sox, Senators, Browns, Indians, Dodgers and Cardinals.
He debuted with the Yankees in 1929, posting a stellar .309 batting average his first season; surpassing both 100 R.B.I.'s and 100 runs scored in 1931 likewise with the Bronx Bombers. He retired in 1940, ending his formidable career with a .269 batting average and 526 runs batted in over 1,302 games. His obscure black fountain pen signature is boldly affixed to the right/east side panel, portraying solid "8" quality. His wife's script (Mary Lawlor Lary) is situated across the sweet spot, not nearly as bold as her husband's signature and reflecting "5" strength at best. The consistently toned Spalding Official League ball's stampings remain clearly legible with the original red/green stitching completely intact. A neat husband and wife "combo" for any advanced autograph compilation, it arguably qualifies as Lyn Lary's most valuable signed artifact. - Full PSA & JSA LOAs
