STARS!!!... The biggest draw for collectors in the 84/85 Star Basketball Set were the rookie cards, or the term that has become popular with Star products, the XRC. It stands for "Extended Rookie Card". In those days, Star was the only game in town when it came to Basketball cards. The market was so small, that it's widely believed only 3,000 – 6,000 sets per team were produced in 84/85. In 1982 Topps ended it's almost 25 year run of producing basketball cards. Fleer didn't step back into the NBA market until the 1986/87 season. It allowed The Star Company an opportunity to have a three year run as the kings of the NBA trading card world.
