1968 Topps 3-D Roberto Clemente PSA 9 MINT
MINT CLEMENTE!!!... This Clemente card is the key to an extremely tough set issued in 1968 by Topps called Topps 3-Ds. This Topps issue was a Test Set that was never intended for distribution to the public, resulting in the rarity we see today and considered one of if not the RAREST card issued in the 60's. While the set of 12 cards had other good players, Clemente was the only true superstar. When this set was produced, Clemente was coming off what many feel was his best season. Clemente hit .357 with 209 hits, 110 RBI and 103 runs scored in 1967. In 1966 Clemente won the NL MVP. Clemente's throwing arm is still considered as one of the most powerful and accurate of all time, as he threw out almost 300 runners from right field in his career as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This card measures 2-1/4" by 3-1/2" and, due to its 3-D design, is subject to some unique condition issues, namely cracking along the plastic-coated surface. The grade of the card will suffer depending on the severity of the crack with most cards of the 12 card set grading 5 or lower. The reverse printing also was an issue, with some examples being tilted or unfocused print, but the existence of these defects will not hinder the grade in a major way. This offered PSA 9 MINT example is one of 7 in the MINT 9 holder and new to the hobby. One of Clemente's RAREST ever issued cards.
