33 RUTH!!!... It is by no accident that the most widely sought after cardboard artifacts typically depict portrayals of baseball's greatest player ever, the swashbuckling Babe Ruth. The 'Sultan of Swat's" significance to the game itself cannot be over emphasized, with his mighty home runs revolutionizing the game. Ruth's popularity came at a point in time after the "Black Sox Scandal" when the game desperately required a monumental favorable turnaround. Baseball historians concede that Babe Ruth saved the game during this dark period, continuing on to become the greatest player of all-time.

Other than a few of his first Boston Red Sox issues, no "Sultan of Swat" cardboard issue is more renowned than one of his four 1933 Goudey Gum cards. This prestigious gum company transformed the card market by inserting baseball players in gum packs as opposed to manufacturers packaging cards with their candy and tobacco products.
