(LOT 8)
Babe Ruth/Christy Walsh Signed Check August 16, 1930 PSA/DNA 9 MINT

According to multiple websites, at the time of his passing in 1948, Babe Ruth was worth an estimated $800,000 or approximately $9 million in 2024 dollars. Stunningly, though Ruth was the highest paid player of his era, his highest player salary came in 1930 & '31 when he earned $80,000 for a season. In typical Ruth fashion, however, The Babe once again led the American League in home runs (46), on-base percentage (.493) and slugging (732) in 1929, leading up to his career-high salary figures. And who could blame Christy Walsh for targeting Ruth as his first client, as the Bambino had nary a moment of free time, given his insatiable need to be the center of attention. But this duo shared a remarkable and personal relationship that would last until Ruth died in 1948. It was Walsh who helped build the Babe Ruth brand across the world, making him the most recognizable figure on the face of the earth at the time. This extraordinary check has been handwritten and signed by "G.H. Ruth" and "Christy Walsh" for $2,928.85, assessed and encased 9 MINT by PSA/DNA. Written on the Bowery and East River National Bank of New York to the "Bank of Manhattan" – "To increase principal of Mr. Ruth' Trust Fund" according to the memo on the reverse. The check does appear to have been written in two separate inks, both black, but the signatures of both Ruth and Walsh remain in tremendous condition at 9 MINT strength. Wonderfully signed by the pair, this check remains in excellent condition with cancellation punch holes at center and a distinct cancellation stamp on the back. A wonderful relic from Babe Ruth and Christy Walsh in the midst of building his impressive fortune.
