(LOT 1774)
1948 Cleveland Indians World Champions Pennant

In 1948, the Cleveland Indians battled all year to ultimately snatch the American League pennant away from the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. Six Hall of Famers topped the roster for the Tribe with Bob Feller, Bob Lemon and Satchel Paige leading the pitching staff while player/manager Lou Boudreau, Larry Doby and Joe Gordon led the way on the diamond. The Indians amassed more hits than any other AL team with a league-leading .282 team batting average and finished second in homers. From the mound, Indians hurlers led the AL in wins (97) and ERA (3.22), two-thirds of the team pitching Triple Crown. Presented here is a striking vermilion "Cleveland Indians - World Champions – 1948". This 28-1/2" x 12" crimson felt World Championship pennant commemorates the Indians' World Series victory over the Boston Braves in a six-game series. At left is an alluring head-dressed Indian Chief beside a white scroll listing each player's name in red including the HOFers as well as Johnny Berardino, Gene Beardon, Jim Hegan, Ken Keltner, Eddie Robinson, Dale Mitchell, Thurman Tucker, Bob Kennedy, Sam Zoldak and Russ Christopher, to name a few. This deep rich crimson pennant is in overall VG to EX condition despite missing the "tails" and set against a red background in a 33-1/4" x 15" black frame. Gorgeous Cleveland relic!
