1957 Topps Football Near-Complete Set with Four SGC-Graded
The 1957 Topps Football release is one of the most significant issues in the hobby with the rookie editions of Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas and Paul Hornung anchoring the 154-card set. Presented here is a near-complete 1957 Topps Football ungraded set with four cards graded by SGC. SGC-graded cards feature SGC 6: 88 Gifford; and SGC 5: 94 Berry, 119 Starr & 138 Unitas. The remainder of the ungraded cards and key grades are as follows with #s: 1 LeBaron (EX-MT), 14 Summerall (EX), 22 Van Brocklin (EX-MT), 26 Matson (EX-MT), 28 Groza (EX, OC), 30 Tittle (VG-EX), 31 Blanda (EX), 32 Layne (EX), 49 Bednarik (EX), 129 Perry (EX-MT) and 154 Morrison (EX). Overall the ungraded segment remains a very sharp set with much of the downgrading being due to centering or print issues. Generally speaking, the ungraded appear approximately 35% EX-MT or better, 50% EX, with the remaining lesser. Missing #s: 102, 114, 125, 126, 131, 133 & 151 Hornung RC. Current estimated value of just the graded cards is over $1,300.
