c.1929 Babe Ruth Oriole Park - Type 1 PSA Encapsulated Original Photograph PSA/DNA LOA
Prior to making his mark from the mound in Beantown, Babe Ruth played the 1914 season with the Baltimore Orioles, his hometown team. With money tight and the Federal League pulling fans from games in 1914, Orioles owner Jack Dunn was forced to sell players, including Ruth, who was snatched up by the Boston Red Sox after Connie Mack and the A's and Cincinnati passed on the three-player package. Spending six seasons in Boston, posting 49 home runs and an 89-46 record, Ruth was on the move again to New York, once again sold/traded to New York for the cash strapped owner, Harry Frazee, who was eager to finance his musical No, No, Nanette. And, as they say, the rest is history! But the Bambino never forgot where he came from. Offered here is a borderless 6" x 9-1/4" Type 1 photograph of the Sultan of Swat tapping another dinger at Orioles Park during an exhibition game in 1929. Capturing the moment after impact, this fantastic black and white PSA Authentic Type 1 photograph shows catcher Leo Dixon and umpire Ward watching Ruth's blast. The reverse is clean with fountain pen notes of "Catcher Dixon – Umpire Ward – season 1929 – (exhibition – Oriole Park)" but missing Babe Ruth as his stature needs no notation. An absolutely wonderful image of The Babe blasting a hometown home run!
