The arrival of major league baseball on the West Coast in the late 1950 striggered an outpouring of collectible promotions that were the envy of collectors in other parts of the country. The Dodgers were especially blessed in this regard. Among the most popular of the regionally issued baseball card sets of that era was the issue sponsored by the team's hot dog vendor, Morrell Meats. They began a three-year run of card sets in 1959 with a 12-card issue that shares its photos with the contemporary team-issued player postcards, showing the players working out in the cavernous L.A. Coliseum. This is the only example of the Gil Hodges card that has been graded higher than EX 5 by PSA.
