1933 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth PSA 1 PR
RED RUTH!!! Unfortunately, by the time the 1933 Goudey Baseball set was released, Babe Ruth was at the tail end of his career, perhaps substantiating the idea that four Ruths should be included in the heralded series. With the departure from the thin and flimsy tobacco cards of the 1900s to '20s, baseball card collectors, a new and emerging market, embraced the heavier stock Goudey sets which were larger and much more durable. And who better to represent your set than the Bambino, who revolutionized the game of baseball, won the 1923 AL MVP Award, seven World Series championships and led the league in home runs 12 times. His 60-home run record stood for 34 years. Offered here is a 1933 Goudey #149 Red Ruth in a PSA 1 set against a striking red background showing heavy but even corner wear and a small crease that runs between the Sultan of Swat's forearms. The back is clean. Though presented here in low grade, this still rare issue is one of the four '33 Goudey Ruths around which to build a quality set.
