1953 Topps #244 Willie Mays SP PSA 7 NM
BOYISH GIANT!!! Willie Mays played in only 34 games in 1952 due to military service, yet Topps still issued a '53 Mays subject, presented in a PSA 7 holder. While Mays did not play in the 1953 season due to military service, his 1953 Topps #244 subject gave his fan base hope for the upcoming 1954 season, a season in which Willie Mays would leave his indelible mark as the best in the game during his NL MVP campaign. Mays returned to lead the National League in batting to earn not only an All-Star nod but his first of two NL MVP honors. This magnificent Mays lithographic image boasts sparkling hues with a reasonably clean surface. In typical fashion, the image is not perfectly centered, in this case favoring the upper and left edges. Square corners only exhibit subtle "touching", the relatively clean borders show some diminutive discoloration with minimal expected reverse edge chipping for this PSA 7 beauty.
