(LOT 377)
1915 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander PSA 5 EX

1915 OLD PETE TREAT!!! It's not too often that two players, near-equally talented, match one another season over season in stats and impact on the game of baseball, like when Washington's Walter Johnson and Philadelphia's Grover Alexander did in the early 1900s. From 1911 to 1925, Johnson went 340-192 with a 2.11 ERA and 2,628 Ks, while Alexander posted a 315-168 record with a 2.42 ERA and 2,005 Ks. Over the years, players have battled for plate or mound supremacy each year, but a sustained rivalry over the course of 15 years is incredibly rare. The offered 1915 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander graded PSA 5 EX is also a rare find and was issued the year Old Pete went 31-10, the first of three straight 30-win seasons. Still presenting a boldly colored red background, snow-white borders, and super sharp edging and corners, this classic Alexander issue is one to consider. With the "Cracker Jack" title slightly skewed, into the upper border is the likely culprit which led to the midgrade assessment as opposed to a much higher grade from PSA. The back remains extremely clear with only the lightest touch of discoloration within the bottom text. The Old Pete deserves some heavy attention and could have graded higher if not for the minor misprint.
