1915 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb PSA 6 EX-MT
CRACKER JACK COBB!!! At the turn of the 20th century, there were only a handful of players that could truly be considered superstars. Pittsburgh's Honus Wagner, Philadelphia's Nap Lajoie, St. Louis' Jesse Burkett, Philadelphia's Ed Delahanty, Boston's Cy Young and New York's Christy Mathewson. But in 1905, the tall and skinny 18-year-old Ty Cobb from Narrows, Georgia signed with the Detroit Tigers and proceeded to tear apart the batting records and opposing pitchers from the American League for a solid two decades. In only this rookie season did Cobb bat sub-.300, and from 1907 to 1919, he led the AL in batting an astonishing twelve times. He led in hits and slugging eight times, seven times in on-base percentage, stolen bases six times and RBIs four times. He was the game's newest and truest superstar. In 1909, the Georgia Peach won the elusive Triple Crown after collecting nine home runs and 107 RBIs while batting a league-leading .377 and in 1911 he captured his one and only MVP, though he likely should have won a dozen had it not been for the rules at the time.
So when Cracker Jack issued their 1914 and 1915 baseball cards series, it's no wonder that Ty Cobb stands as one of the anchors of the brightly colored and highly coveted set. Offered here is a 1915 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb holdered 6 EX-MT from PSA. This astoundingly rich and bright POP 7 issue does not surface often for sale and this is one of the nicest we have had the pleasure to offer. Though a few dozen lower graded examples have hit the auction block over the past few years, this is the highest graded to be offered since an SGC 7 sold in 2021. The deep red background really stands out on this issue as Cobb holds his bat, ready for action. This issue offers wonderful centering showing mild partiality to the left, fantastic corners and borders that remain strong and sharp, and clear registration with only minimal scattered caramel staining overall. This PSA 6 Cracker Jack of the Georgia Peach from 1915 is one of Ty Cobb's most attractive cards and unquestionably one of the most sought-after in the hobby, especially for those assembling a PSA Registered set.
