(LOT 177)
1961 Topps #300 Mickey Mantle PSA 9 MINT

FINAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! Mickey Mantle's near-career season in 1961, when he belted 54 home runs, drove in 128 and batted .317, was far overshadowed by his home run race with teammate Roger Maris. Much like 1941, when Ted Williams became the last player to hit .400 or better (.406), his numbers were forgotten as Joe DiMaggio hit in 56 straight games. However, Mantle was already a two-time AL MVP and a year later, the baseball writers would honor him once again with the 1962 MVP Award as he earned his one and only Gold Glove Award and led the New York Yankees to the final World Series title of his career. This 1961 Topps #300 Mickey Mantle holdered 9 MINT by PSA is remarkably clean and fresh with pinpoint centering. Pack-fresh in every conceivable way, Mantle's extraordinary portrait image, bat over shoulder, depicts near-perfect registration and crystal-clear focus, with the image extremely well-centered (virtually 50/50) between four super bright white borders. Sparkling hues ably project the world-class pose with Mickey's classic pinstripe uniform and iconic Yankee cap further elevating the brilliant illustration. The offered 1961 Topps PSA 9 MINT has only been bested by a meager two specimens. This has survived more than 63 years of storage and handling in such pristine condition!
