(LOT 139)
1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips Mickey Mantle PSA 8 NM-MT

DAN-DEE YANKEE!!! In 1954, the New York Yankees, arguably the greatest franchise in sports history, boasted the young superstar Mickey Mantle who, after only three years in the big leagues, owned a .295 batting average, had 398 hits including 57 home runs and had driven in 244 RBIs. The perennial All-Star would win his first of three American League MVPs two years later as he captured the monumental Triple Crown in 1956. The rare and highly sought-after 1952 Topps #311 issue resides among the pantheon of the most significant baseball cards in the hobby along with the 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner and the 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth. Because of the '52 Mantle, The Mick's other issues from this era have enjoyed much press and are also some of the more coveted in the hobby. Offered here is a 1954 Dan-Dee Potato Chips Mickey Mantle graded 8 NM-MT by PSA. Because these issues were included in bags of potato chips, they frequently succumbed to staining and oil marks due to the chips, though this one is superb. This one is near-perfectly framed within four white borders, has razor edging and corners, and features seemingly untouched surfaces. A difficult mantle to land in high-grade, this one is sure to upgrade any collection with fewer than ten graded higher!
