(LOT 18)
Absolutely Stunning John McGraw Signed Strauss-Peyton Original Studio Photograph PSA/DNA LOA

Baseball and photography seem to go hand-in-hand given the unmistakable Charles Conlon in-action photos of the 1910s and '20s, as well as legendary portrait captures by Carl Horner, and various unique styles of George Grantham Bain, Louis Van Oeyen and Georges Burke and Brace. Conlon and Horner are pioneers of the trade with hundreds of Horner's images utilized for the 1909-11 T206 tobacco cards, among others, and a grand assortment of Conlon's images used for the coveted 1933 & '34 Goudey releases. But it all started in the studio.

In 1908, the studio of Strauss-Peyton formed in Kansas City with Bernard Strauss as photographer and Homer Peyton as assistant, skilled at photo and image manipulation. Offered here is arguably baseball's greatest manager, John McGraw, captured in a portrait by Strauss Peyton Studios and signed by McGraw. This phenomenal 11" x 14" image of the famed skipper is astoundingly captivating, showing the expertise of both photographer and master manipulator. This image is absolutely flawless, and John McGraw has signed "Yours Sincerely – John McGraw" at the upper right corner and the Strauss Peyton – K.C. mark at bottom right. Encased in a 16" x 20" wooden frame, this stunning image of the Giants field general is surely to capture every person's eye as he or she passes by this masterpiece.
