(LOT 1678)
Pair of 1940s Negro League Baseball Pennants - Homestead Grays & New York Black Yankees

This pair of gorgeous and near-mint original 1940s Negro League pennants includes The New York Black Yankees who were based in NYC; Paterson, New Jersey; and Rochester, New York. Beginning as the independent Harlem Stars, the team was renamed the New York Black Yankees in 1932, joined the Negro National League in 1936 and remained in the league through 1948. The second pennant is that of the Homestead Grays, which were formed in 1912 by Cumberland Posey; the team remained active for 38 seasons. Initially based in Homestead, Pennsylvania, the Grays moved to Pittsburgh in the 1920s but retained their original name. They played their home games at Forbes Field and Greenlee Field in Pittsburgh. From 1940 to 1942, the Grays played half of their home games in Washington, D.C., before shifting most of their home games there by 1943 due to growing attendance in the capital. Condition is excellent and professionally framed to an overall 33" x 19".
