1974 Topps #1 Hank Aaron All Time HR King PSA 9 MINT
NEW HR KING!!!... The exalted 1974 Topps #1 subject certainly jumped the gun, boldly naming Hank Aaron the "NEW ALL-TIME HOME RUN KING." Going into the 1974 campaign, Aaron was still one homer short of Ruth's magical 714 mark. Then, on April 8, 1974, history was made at Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium with Braves legendary announcer Milo Hamilton's iconic call as follows: "He's sitting on 714...Here's the pitch by Downing...Swinging...There's a drive into left-center field...That ball is going to be out of here...It's Gone...It's 715...There's a new home run champion of all-time and it's Henry Aaron!" Aaron's 715th homer in the bottom of the 4th inning off of Al Downing literally turned the baseball world upside down, and this near immaculate PSA 9 MINT 1974 Topps #1 subject likewise stands near the top of the PSA Pop Chart, bested by only a single example. A "perfect" number one checklist selection, Topps turned out to be both wise and prophetic in choosing Hammerin' Hank to commence their 1974 compilation!
