1971 Topps #230 Willie Stargell PSA 9 MINT - Only One PSA Example Graded Higher!
MINT POPS!!!... The condition-sensitive 1971 Topps black borders resulted in so few of their subjects retaining their pack-fresh attributes. A grand testament to Stargell's HOF stature, it conjures up vivid memories of Willie "Pops" Stargell who received his iconic nickname via his unequivocal leadership during his late-1970s Pirates tenure. Playing 21 seasons in Pittsburgh, Stargell accumulated 475 home runs and 1,540 RBIs. Most significantly, he was one of the leading cogs for the Pirates' 1971 World Series title (along with Roberto Clemente) and the irrefutable main driver of the 1979 championship team. Indeed, Stargell's 1979 NL MVP campaign ultimately spearheaded Pittsburgh to another title, with Willie establishing himself as the Steel City's elder statesman. We cannot detect any notable wear on the fragile black borders, with the impeccable batting pose, razor-sharp corners, and pristine surfaces all substantiating the world-class grade.
