(LOT 662)
1949 Bowman #226 Duke Snider Rookie PSA 8 NM-MT

DUKE'S ROOKIE!!!... Edwin "Duke" Snider was one of the great center fielders of the 1950s, residing in New York along with the Yankees Mickey Mantle and Giants Willie Mays. The Duke was one of the few players in baseball history to have hit 40 or more home runs in five consecutive seasons and the first National Leaguer to accomplish that feat. For 18 years, the Duke roamed the outfield and posted a .985 fielding percentage while conversely hitting .295 with 407 homers and 1,333 RBIs. Duke Snider's most significant card is his 1949 Bowman rookie, presented here in an attractive PSA 8 holder. The card reveals an imposing Snider portrait pose encompassed by a near-flawless pea-green background. Although the classic image does slightly favor the right edge, the eye-popping illustration, pack-fresh surfaces, and right-angled corners more than substantiate the high-grade assessment!
