1912 S81 Silks #97 Joe Tinker SGC 5 EX – POP 2; Only One Example Graded Higher!
TINKER RARITY!!!... This super scarce SGC 5 EX 1912 S81 Silk #97 Joe Tinker is one of only two examples at this eye-pleasing plateau, bested by only a single specimen! Distributed in 1912 by the Helmar Tobacco Co. as a premium for their Turkish Trophy cigarettes, the S81 Silks measure approximately 6-3/4" x 8-3/4" and include brilliant images of 25 of the game's top players. The exact same image affixed to Tinker's iconic T3 Turkey Red, his classic throwing pose boasts crystal-clear clarity and sparkling gray/green hues. In typical fashion, the upper and lower edges reveal some modest fraying (scattered threads), with no obtrusive flaws evident on either side. Relatively clean borders and fine side edges are the final compliments for one of Tinker's most elusive artifacts, with this HOF immortal being the first link of the legendary "Tinker to Evers to Chance" double-play combination!
