(LOT 304)
1952 Topps #36 Gil Hodges Red Back PSA 8 NM-MT

GIL THE THRILL!!!... For 18 years with the Brooklyn Dodgers (1943, 1947-1961) and New York Mets (1962-1963), Gil Hodges was one of the most feared hitters in the National League and, more significantly, one of the most skilled first basemen of his day. He won the first three Gold Gloves in the NL for his position (1st base), but had the award been offered sooner, he would surely have garnered more as he retired with a .992 fielding percentage at first. He was part of the "Boys of Summer" core group in Brooklyn with Campanella, Reese, Snider and Jackie Robinson. Not only was Hodges a great fielder, but for seven straight seasons (1949-1955), Hodges collected 100 RBIs or more.

Leading to Brooklyn's capturing four National League pennant and one World Series title in that stretch. The offered 1952 Topps #36 Gil Hodges Red Back PSA 8 NM-MT issue is colorful with a tangerine background perfectly framed within four sharp borders. Light, but even corner wear likely attests to the 8 NM-MT grade, as it's hard to see why this isn't graded higher. The reverse is clean and bright. There is a sharpness throughout this Hall of Famers issue from the coveted 1952 Topps release.
