(LOT 97)
1975 Topps #284 Ken Griffey PSA 10 GEM MINT

SENIOR!!!... Three world-class athletes hailed from the little town of Donora, Pennsylvania and all played baseball with Stan Musial, Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. Amazing that three incredibly skilled players, including two Hall of Famers, could come from a small steel town along the Monongahela River. But, Ken Griffey was an exceptional four-sport athlete who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds for his speed. Unfortunately for Griffey, once with the Reds, the right fielder was moved to second in the batting order, ahead of Joe Morgan, and was told not to steal bases as it distracted Morgan at the plate.

Had he been able to steal, his numbers would likely have been significantly higher, as he argued that he considered himself "the best there was at stealing bases..." at the time. Griffey's sacrifice for the team helped lead to back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 & '76. Offered here is a 1975 Topps #284 Ken Griffey PSA GEM MINT 10 issue. Gorgeous and one of only a handful at this pinnacle level.
