Charlie Chaplin and Helen Hayes Signed 44th Annual Academy Awards Program 4/10/72 Beckett LOA
This 44th Annual Academy Awards Program cover has been signed by Helen Hayes and Charlie Chaplin. Hayes was one of the hosts at the Awards, while Charlie Chaplin received an honorary award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century". Chaplin, who had been living in self-imposed exile in Switzerland for twenty years, came back to the United States to market his older films and to receive this award. When introduced to the audience, Chaplin received a 12-minute standing ovation, the longest in Academy Awards history. A great keepsake signed by this English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film.
